1) Short and sexy scarf

1) Choose a good yarn

The very first thing you need to learn if you want to take up knitting is choosing a good yarn. You should be comfortable with the yarn that you choose and also with the pattern it has. You could see the details of the yarn on the label attached to it. The label would contain the name of the material used in the yarn, the shade and the fiber content.

2) Knitting needles

Next thing you should get is the knitting needs. You would find different knitting needles in the market. The straight needles have a pointed end and the other end has a knob so that the stitches you make with the needles don’t slip off from one end. All the needles come in pair and since you are beginner so you should get started with the straight needles first and then later you can learn to use other kinds of needles like circular needles and double pointed needles.

3) Casting on

You can now get started by casting on the stitches. Even though there are different ways by which you can cast them the knitting on is the best of them. You can start with the knitting needle of size 8 as it is quite comfortable for the newbies. Tie a slip knot on the needle while leaving 3 inches of yarn in the back for the tail. This would be the first stitch. Keep the needle in your left hand and as you stitch leave it on the right needle. Now slip the stitch which is on the right needle to the left one by inserting the left needle on the front side of the stitch and then transferring it on the left one.

4) Purl stitch

The purl stitch is just like the knit stitch only it is reversed. In this you have to keep the needle which has the stitches in your left hand and then insert the needle in the right hand downwards and then leave the right needle in front of the needle in the left hand. Now you would have to transfer the left needle stitch from the left needle to the right one by sliding the left needle’s stitch.
